Despite the rocky arrival at Arkoshia, everything that follows moves along smoothly. The supplies and men are unloaded on the shores of the Cawle River. Dragonborn move around with prideful indignation at having to work with lesser kin, but the princely Kybirus keeps his soldiers in line, knowing there are bigger things at stake. The only exception, which seems to confuse them more than anything, is Ismene moving around all the troops handing out kisses and hugs like candy. Several times they make to strike her, thinking her an ordinary human, but sense her magical aura (or are too charmed by her to do anything else). Aside from this, they waste no time at all unloading their stocks and larders, and even begin felling trees to make a makeshift port--the bare bones for what is to soon come.
Bonebreaker Dorokor rallies her men to her on the shore, a symbol of intimidating power and enough to rival that of your new red-scaled allies. Despite the bright sunlight and the fatigue after battle, she shows no outward signs of weakness to anyone. She moves among the ranks with ease and breaks them into groups, led by stronger generals she can trust among her men.
Among them the humans group together too, led by Commander Ironfist. Despite his disability he shows an imposing aura and a knowledge of battle, and even Dorokor cannot deny this. She had to fight against him many times. Despite her having been the cause of his injury, they work at least peaceably together, him being one of the men she chooses to lead. Ferrar and Leonar stay close by him as if burly bodyguards, fitting in decently with the orcs.
The kobolds have more than an enjoyable time fetching all the trinkets from the flotsam and jetsam around the destroyed galleon. All in all it ends up being general goods and supplies that can help feed and fund the armies as they travel up river in secret. Vele watches over them with a careful eye, Tak and Darr helping where they can in organizing the chaos. There weren't too many losses with the pirates, although some were to be expected. And, whether surprising or no, by the time they are on shore and gathering together you find several carrying eggs on their backs with their supplies and rations, and even smaller ones running about--children who were born on the trip--barking and yipping as they try to help.
Oxious and Dahlia meet with Ismene one last time, the half-dragonborn laughing and hugging her like a little sister. They seem keen to move on, Oxious somehow the most so. The last thing he does is speak with Kora in private, passing her a satchel of materials. You sense it is probably more of that powerful oil and ointment, knowing the old goat.
Vance gives his brother a swift goodbye, wishing him a safe journey and bouncing with excitement himself. You also spot Vele swooping down with her mount to land on the beach, cutting off Tak as he carries more supplies in. His injury from Komodori has healed quite a bit, though stiff and scarred like the rest of him. You can't make out what they say to one another, but it appears to be at least... a cordial parting.
Bethrynna Stormwind stands aboard the Annabel Lee, watching with interest. She and Sheila have grown more familiar with one another, and discuss the coming plans at length. Needless to say, being a pirate ship herself, the captain would need a bit of diplomatic assistance getting anywhere near the ports surrounding Satun. The drow ambassador has kept to herself otherwise, keen to get home and continue working on the problems of her own city.
Atriox approaches the ambassador carefully. This next part of his plan will require her goodwill and her support with her father
Once he’s close to her he announces his presence with a grunt. Once she sees him he gives her a curt small bow of respect and then gets closer to her
“I do hope for the most part your trip was enjoyable my dear ambassador. You must be excited to be so close to home.”
She gives a small smile and a nod in return to your bow. "Yes, verily. I long to see my home and my father again. And the trip was as enjoyable as it could be. Regardless of the unpleasant surprises along the way, it's still going far better than my last voyage."
You can tell she is still grateful for the rescue back in Dragonshore, and honors her goodwill with you because of it. "You must be excited as well I'd imagine; being back home after so long."
Atriox goes to stand by her at the railing of the ship and looks out at all the movement on the beach, pondering her words for a moment
“In truth I did feel some excitement when I first saw my homeland again on the horizon. But I’m burying it.... I refuse to let my self get excited or distracted when there’s work to be done. Once Skyhold is mine again and I can look out from the peaks of the mountain again.....then I’ll be excited and all the other nice things.”
He looks over at her with a sad smile
“And now my dear I’m afraid we must talk politics.”
She nods, as if expecting the topics to turn as such. "Yes, understandably. A power coming back to these lands is likely to stir some nests, yes?"
Atriox nods knowingly out at the beach
“For better or worse I must. My domain is at the heart of this land and from here I will start my Empire officially.....but how can I do that if my own capitals borders are not secured ? Now I do not want a fight, the very opposite in fact. I plan to summon a council of all the leaders on this continent. Together I would like us to come together, make trade and resource deals, unite our homeland under one banner. Mine..... “
He looks at her again with complete seriousness in his eyes
“I will be asking for your fathers support in this as my main Allie in the talks in return for saving you. You and I both hopefully know that’s not why I did it because it’s not , I didn’t even know who you were but I hope you understand that I must use all my advantages now. If the talks fail I will go the way of the sword if I must.”
Bethrynna looks very straight-faced and calm, considering all that you've said. She does her best not to give away her own personal feelings on the facts, remaining as diplomatic as ever.
"That is understandable. So an entire empire, then?" The gears work in her mind. "Some kingdoms may not wish to ally, but we shall see what fruit the talks bear. Perhaps your presence can help alleviate some of the old hurts between the peoples there now."
Atriox nods some more
“I will certainly try if I can. I want our homeland to prosper from this. I just thought you deserved to know and I wanted to know if I could seek your help in this. I don’t expect you to care for my kind but I hope to show you what I can do for this land that we love.”
"Most certainly." She smiles kindly at your words. " I wish to see this land prosper just as much as you do. There is often and economical benefit for well run empires in history. I indeed hope we can reach peaceful agreements."
The ambassador shifts her weight, thinking. "What may benefit the talks the most... may be equal and swift protection against any threats on one kingdom. Either from a neighboring kingdom, outside interlopers, or natural threats. Increase camaraderie among nations."
Bethrynna looks over at you. "This has been a sticking issue for centuries between the peoples of Arkoshia. Long-held disputes and grievances. Many nations have turned inward and are stagnating in stubbornness."
Atriox smiles at her, hope in his eyes
“Those are excellent suggestions ambassador as well as astute observations. You will be a great help in these proceedings I think. Now let’s get you home first shall we ?”
****
The next few weeks are anything but relaxing. Diplomatic talks with Bethrynna and Vance, surveying the lands along the coastlines of Arkoshia with Sheila Coppertree, late night discussions with Oxious, Dahlia, and even Bareus at times, and some sparring matches with Tak round out your very busy schedule.
Passing by the large landmass that makes up the eastern half of Arkoshia, you notice during most of the journey it is bathed in dark mists and shadow. It is hard to tell from your position if it is just a local weather pattern or something more fell, but the other pirates on board are definitely wary of it, mentioning ghost ships and evil creatures that lurk amid the marshes.
The air clears up some by the time you pass through the Narder Stronghold. Your arrival was definitely noted by someone, as word of Atriox and Sheila taking on Captain Longhorn brought you instant success. Little trouble came your way in these pirate and mercenary-infested waters.
One of your final stops before the mainland is the island of Chane. East of your destination, it is one of the larger ports in all of Arkoshia. Filled with beautiful orchards and high-end villas, it is most definitely an upper-class retreat compared to many of the smaller port cities you've come across. The bright blue and green flagstone roofs shimmer like the water in the bay, and make the city look like it is composed of jewels. Sheila is most eager to stop here on the way in, unloading a bit of extra cargo she brought along on consignment.
After a night of rest in this beautiful area, you make the last leg of your journey to the mainland of Arkoshia--a medium-sized port just outside the City of Satun by the name of Shattercrag.
It is strangely nostalgic coming back to these cities. As a child, you remember attending a political meeting with your mother. The affairs of the evening are lost to time, but you instantly recognized the brilliantly etched, tiled walls and the smell of strong spices wafting in from the port and the main city on the horizon. Massive in scale, it is definitely the largest kingdom that this continent has--being surrounded by smaller castles and baronies for miles.
Bethrynna looks utterly relieved once you step back on land again. There are many stares in her direction--likely, most people here thought her dead or lost at sea. In no time at all you make it to the local castle. Once greeted outside, you pass through the main cooridor to meet with the Lord Roth of Shattercrag.
"Bless my stars, Rynna darling?! Is that you?" The overjoyed father leaps from his seat, shock and awe on his face. Roth, a human man aging with some silver in his brown beard and dressed in fine clothes. She embraces her father dearly, explaining what happened and who you are. Her faher shakes your hand.
"I am extremely thankful, Lord Atriox, for your helping my daughter."
Atriox gratefully shakes back and smiles at the aging man. Though humans are not one of Atrioxs most loved species on the planet....this man seems truly kind. He hopes that he agrees to the plan
“It was mine honor Lord Roth. I’m just glad I got there in time. Me and my companions can only stay for a very short time as there is much to do, but I was hoping my friends could rest at your table for a bit whilst you and I along with your daughter discuss a proposal I have for you.”
The man nods, understanding and intrigue on his face. Although Rynnna must take after her mother's looks, you can definitely see where she got her mannerisms from.
"Of course, of course. It shall be done." With a clap of his hands, he summons for dinner to be prepared for his guests.
Tak isn't the only one that looks a little out of place at such a nice table. He tries his best to be formal, but the gnolls that came along have no such qualms. Loud jokes and laughter follow them wherever they go, and they are definitely not sorry for it.
Roth provides a word of thanks over the food and company and everyone digs in. He signals for his daughter to follow along, and he leads you to another room--a lush library full of the smell of books. A great crystal window lets shimmering light speckle the polished floor.
"Sit, please. And now," the man smiles, "tell me your thoughts, good Dragonborn."
Atriox lets a small smile escape despite himself
“I hardly know about good but I try my Lord as I suspect you do. You seem a good man if I may be so blunt. You know who I am and where I’m from so you can probably guess why I’m here yes ? But you can not know what I have planned for the future. So I’m here to offer you the chance to be the first to join me in this opportunity. Your lovely daughter will explain what I intend.”
Bethrynna nods, standing before you both professional and poised. She recites all the details back, almost word for word; she has quite the capable memory. While she talks, her father nods, pauses, and nods again at all the appropriate times.
Half way through he stands and paces back and forth in front of the window, seemingly lost in thought as he soaks in her words. He has definitely spent some time indeed working in politics in the city, and as a tentative peacekeeper between Satun and the Drow cities to the west.
Once she is finished, she glances in Atriox's direction as if waiting for any corrections or contradictions to her news. In the silence that follows, Roth Stormwind strokes his beard with one hand as he sees the chess pieces moving in his mind.
"So your intent is that of an empire, regardless of the reaction from the kingdoms in this land? Either they accept, or...." He nods, not judging your plan of action but merely considering what it would entail.
"It will definitely be a surprise to the kings and lords, this I am certain. Some in power now were not when Skyhold first fell. For example, Satun is currently under the monarchy of King Geoffrey II, the Prosperous. His father ruled when you were but a child, back when the mountain was taken."
He comes back to sit in a chair beside you. The way he phrases the loss of your home strikes you as odd, and you've surely heard many stories about what may have happened or what caused its speedy destruction. Rumors spread fast, and he is being exceptionally polite. At the moment he sits, taking a long look at your face. "You carry many of your father's features now that you've grown... Especially your eyes."
At this point you know you must have run into him on your visit with your mother, many many years ago. Roth smiles.
"Lucky for you, whereas Geoffrey the I was... well, bred with hard-handed stoicism," he chuckles, "his son has taken a different route. Trade and business, and it has grown exponentially since he took the throne seven years ago."
He gestures for his daughter to sit and she does so. "I'm sure Bethrynna would agree, based on what she's seen and shared of your work, that your best way to persuade the king now is with talks of trade. Open routes where Satun's gold and spices can flow, free of danger near the mountains to the entire continent."
Roth's eyes twinkle as he speaks, his advice freely given. You're sure this plays into his own politics somehow but it seems well-given.
Atriox nods all the while listening to the lord. He pauses and looks surprised at the mention of his father. After Lord Roth finishes he responds somewhat sadly
“I can barely remember my parents to be honest.......it’s been 12 years since that night.....12 long years.”
After a few moments he awkwardly realizes he spoke out loud
“ I appreciate your kind words my lord and please excuse my momentary laps into my own family drama. I think you and I can work well together Lord Roth . Though this is politics and you undoubtedly have your own reasons for this I think you and I understand each other very well and I hope we can work together. So can we ? Will you talk to this king on my behalf? When the time comes and I summon the leaders of this land you’ll urge him that this is the right thing to do ?”
Lord Roth beams. "Absolutely. It would be my pleasure." He reaches out his hand to shake yours. "My daughter has a better hand for the pen than I do; I will place her in charge of keeping you informed as to our progress."
Bethrynna nods and smiles. "Happy to do so. As well as receiving any new information from yourself, or your scribes. Once again, thank you for your assistance, Prince Atriox."
Atriox bow’s his head to her and shakes her fathers hand with gratitude and respect. Atriox is feeling very relieved that this man is exactly who he needs to get on the inside of the island continents political world
“Good sounds like we’re off to a fine start. Now If you two wouldn’t mind I have a final request and and a parting deal to make with you and your city.”
For a good while Atriox discuss with him how he’s sure that the the upper levels of Skyhold are mostly intact and that for a time that we’re a good amount of people will be living. The royal palace and living areas will need furnished and made livable. That is where they come in.
Atriox looks at the Lord
“So my friend what do you think ? Can we work something out ?”
Lord Roth looks over at his daughter. "We have a contact or two in Satun who we've worked with before, right dearest? Could you check with them on the matter?"
Bethrynna smiles and nods. "Of course. Some stock should be available now, but more could be made in little time at all. We can even request some artisans to attend to Skyhold in person."
Atriox nods and smiles again at her
“I would greatly appreciate it. They would be very useful. Later of course I’ll order more specific items and so on but for now we just need it livable again. Every favor will be repaid I assure you. Now the final thing.......we need mounts. Keep it hush hush but we need to get back to my army so that we can retake the mountain while surprise is still on our side. Can you help friend ?”
(Just for fun, roll a persuasion check for me)
(18thththhhhhhhhh
He chuckles. "I trust the honor of your word, given what you've done for us so far. I have several warhorses in my stables that can be put to good use for you? Along with a cart or two should you need such."
He stands and approaches a table nearby, pouring a dark burbon-colored drink into small glasses for everyone present. It smells fruity, or at least what you can sense would be fruit given your disposition.
Atriox takes the drink mentally cursing that he must, but he puts on a smile and downs it
“Why thank you those will do very nicely. We won’t use them In combat and you will of course get them back friend you have my word.”
He drinks his as well and sighs happily. "I would appreciate that very much. Thank you." He claps you on the arm in a friendly gesture.
"When do you anticipate this meeting taking place? Within the year, I assume? And before or after you have reestablished a kingdom in the mountain?"
Atriox thinks on it for a moment.....he’s stunned. Surprised at himself. He looks at the greying man in surprise
“You know I pride myself as a planner and tactician but I honestly haven’t thought about that. Once Skyhold is retaken my immediate concern is making it livable and defendable while repairs begin to come under way. They will no doubt take a great deal of time so I wish to start on it as soon as I can. I’d say once Skyhold is presentable enough and my affairs are calmed down....if only slightly. Half a year from now shall we say ?”
Lord Roth nods. "Yes, that seems a good time frame. Word will spread faster than that, of course. It always does." He looks out the window at the city down below.
"All I ask of you is to continue the good work. A hopeful empire is one to win over hearts."
Atriox nods as he heads for the door he stops and looks back
“Indeed and I would prefer to do things that way. But I will do what I must my Lord for I cannot leave the heart of my own Empire unsecured and vulnerable. I wish you all good fortune.”
Atriox heads out to gather his people and ride out
***
Long travels and many trying events later, Etny finds herself quiet and aloof from everyone. Her mood is deep and full of despair, a despair that knows no bounds--a despair that has its roots in her loss, and she keeps these things deep in her heart, locking them away deep in her own emotional vaults. It has been days--weeks since the one she had given her heart to had gone away...forever.
She is utterly alone in this world again, and finds no solace. Her mood does lighten a little when she sees Atriox Dugairon approaching with his entourage, ready to ride out. Many moons ago, she would have felt so intimidated and uncomfortable in his presence, but now she has found a greater and more succinct respect for the fledgling ruler, and she has known nothing but adoration and praise for his efforts on behalf of his people. She can understand, to a good degree, where he is coming from, and why he does what he does, and wishes only the best for him. Which is why she has done all in her power to be the angakresh's great Huntress, and succeed in her role.
She gives him a brief but knowing smile, and bows respectfully as he passes by. "Halalu arata magara, Angakresh Atriox-Dugairon." ("You have honor and praise forever, Dragonborn Prince Atriox.") Such is the manner in which she greets him in much of these later days.
Atriox grunts and raises a surprised eyebrow at the sudden appearance of the huntress. She seems different but he can’t pinpoint what exactly is different about her. He shrugs it off and motions for her to walk with him and the others
“You we’re always very kind with your praises huntress even when I haven’t earned them. But you are just in time to ride out with us say, where’s Ore.......? Oh.....”
Atriox suddenly stops. He sees it in her eyes most of all. The sorrow and loss. The fact that Ore isn’t by her side speakers for itself. He puts a comforting hand on her shoulder
“Oh Et....I’m so sorry, how ....?”
Etny looks down for a moment, averting her eyes. Speaking of it will break the carefully constructed defenses around her heart, but at the same time, the prince is so kind.
"Atriox-Dugairon," her voice quiet, "you are deserving of all the praise I can give." Looking up at him, she meets his gaze. "Ore-elenn has...has disappeared into a place inescapable." Her heart pounds in her chest, and she fights the tears threatening to escape her eyes. "I do not think I can say anymore, my prince. It is...difficult to speak about it." She rests a hand on his for a moment, and swipes at her eyes with her free hand. "This was three moons past now, Atriox-Dugairon, and the pain is still just as sharp as an arrow. I will manage, though." A joyless, forced smile graces her features.
"What does my Prince require of me this day," she inquires, seeking to carefully and tactfully change the subject.
Atriox looks at her carefully for a moment. He mourns with her silently but it is time for action not inaction. He gives her shoulder one last squeeze before letting go
“If you can ride fast and hard then your with us. It’s time I take my home back once and for all.”
Etny looks up at the Prince again. "Eyeh, Atriox-Dugairon, I ride with you, to the reclaiming of your home--to the end of all things!"
She bows deeply to him once more, ready for anything.
(So dramatic lol but I love it)
(Lol, well, as Han so gracefully put it in RotJ, "hey, it's me!")

Time passes, and the two of you continue your journey southwest toward the grand mountain range in the distance. Gaare looks greatly improved now that she's off the ship and able to move around freely again. As well, the warhorses and carts provided to you by Lord Roth are doing extremely well for you, and do not tire easily.
The gnolls are considerably more interested in the strange environment here, not at all used to it having spent their lives in a desert. There is much snickering and awe-struck expressions as they see new things. Likewise, Ismene the nymph is in heaven. Being surrounded by a brand new forest, perhaps older or younger than her own, only she can tell, has made her even more giddy than normal.
Oxious does't mind as much, but Vance can't help but be stricken with her--against all his better judgment. The young dragonborn seems utterly distracted, trying his hardest to keep focused on the journey and asking Atriox questions about the land, politics, and anything he can think of to keep his mind busy.
Dahlia and Tak ride together, the kobold far too small to be on a horse by himself. At the beginning of the journey he was more than embarrassed, but Dahlia softened him up as the hours passed. They talk quietly together for much of the journey, undisturbed at the rear of the line and leading the carts along with you.
The entire time you stayed in Satun, as well as on your journey back to Skyhold, there's a prickling feeling on your necks; as if you are being watched. Somehow, from somewhere... No matter how hard you try, you cannot seem to find anyone following you. A strange scent always accompanies it that you can't quite place.
****
It has been a few days and you finally catch sight of your first big landmark. In the valley right before the Arkoshan Mountains lays the city of Sirisea, one of the last big cities you'll find that is still part of the kingdom of Satun. Given the many wide roads and machines traversing the boarders, you can tell that this is a mining city--and a prosperous one at that. The hills practically glitter with specks of gold in the sunlight.
Cartloads of goods pass you on the road, heading off to both Satun and Chane and driven by teams of oxen and gnomes. Those that work with the mines are easy to spot--calloused hands and tools galore--whereas the merchants are draped with fine clothes and strange trinkets.
They watch you with curiosity on their faces, keen to see if you'll stop in their city or not. At least, for the moment, the prickling feeling of being watched is gone. The gnolls are more than excited to stop and earn some coin with their tricks. Etny, you feel a slight comfort being somewhere so new--it helps take your mind off of things just slightly. Atriox, you have been fasting since you landed in Chane and it is honestly getting hard to move onward without feeding soon.
Atriox grunts as he looks around the town and then back at his party. He calls out to them
“ Alright everybody. You have three hours to stretch your legs and rest before we move out again. Everybody watch out for each other.”
Atriox swings off his own horse, a bit soar from the ride so far. He is definitely feeling fatigued from hunger but he wait to talk to Dahlia till later
For now he heads to find a tavern and gather some info
You find the nearest tavern, a playful pub by the name of the Holy Goat. Inside the room is full of tinkerers and inventors as well as their creations displayed up on the walls or hanging from the ceiling. It is very eclectic and a little small, making you duck every now and then.
The small voices seem magnified here and fill the air. You hear much talk about the work in town and affairs outside. Bandits on the road, missing equipment and mixed feelings on the Blades of the Green, whoever they are; from the sound of it, they are mostly in the south down by the Cawle River. You also hear the name Faringar Glittergold mentioned and take it he is the Lord of the area.
A small serving woman the size of a child approaches you, but you assume she's at least three times your age. With a warm smile she shouts up at you over the noise, "Hello there traveler! We have some great specials tonight, can I get you a menu?"
Atriox smiles down at her with a rare friendliness in his eyes. He remembers from when he was young how much he like the gnomes of this land. How much he admired and respected there creativeness and in general good attitude
“No my lady just a place to sit and rest. And if possible....I’m looking to hire willing recruits. I’m the Lord of Skyhold and when I retake it a few of your skilled race could greatly help in remaking it. Just spread the word. He puts down a hundred gold pieces for her and waits to be seated
Her eyes widen with shock and she's struck dumb for a moment. When she recovers, she nods and stammers with a squeak, "Y-yes! Yes of course! Right this way!"
Without further hesitation she leads you to another area of the tavern, a place with somewhat larger tables and less crowding. It seems larger folk don't often come here, but are still accommodated for. She looks a little flustered and, perhaps excited, to be around someone so important.
"I know several skilled artisan guilds in the city that would be more than happy to assist with your work." Her eyes twinkle brightly. "I-I'll be sure to let them know, they have great ears for news and are quick to start on new projects! Always excited to... OH! I-I'm sorry, what can I get you for your meal? Anything to drink?"
The server's ears turn red and she pulls out a small paper to jot down information. As much as she doesn't look like one who could forget an order, given her disposition now she seems apt to forget quite a lot.
At that moment the door rings with a tinkling of bells as someone else enters the pub. Your senses pick up that it is someone familiar. Looking up, you see Dahlia peering around, smiling and excusing herself as she tries to avoid bumping into the patrons. Her eyes meet yours after a moment and she waves in your direction.
Atriox waves back and motions for her to join him. Once she gets close to the table he asks
“Would you like something to drink ?”
"Water is fine, thank you." She beams warmly and takes a seat.
As the gnome leaves Dahlia chuckles. "Nice to have a break from riding... it's more troublesome after being at sea so long."
Atriox snickers and smiles at her
“Is that so ? Well soon enough we will reach our destination. I sense a fight coming and I’m not entirely prepared for it if I’m honest with you.”
She nods, sipping at the water the gnome just brought her. Seeing that you are both busy she hurries off again leaving you two alone.
"Well if I know you at all, I know you'll have a plan just the same." She pauses, considering. "I suppose it does stand to reason the mountain has new.... inhabitants since you've left. I know this is hard for you."
Atriox nods her way as she speaks his suspicions aloud. Atriox waves the waitress over again asking for a water as well but only half full
Your water is brought to you as requested. Dahlia orders a small plate of fruit and slowly eats it as the two of you think about the heavy things that are to come.
"It'll be alright. We'll scout ahead, find out what's going on... what are you planning?"
Atriox thinks on her words carefully
“To get in behind there lines, whoever they are. I’ll explain more when the time comes but for now just know we have an ace up our sleeve my dear.”
She winks, popping a piece of apple into her mouth. "Always do."
After another sip of her water she sets her cup down and looks a little embarrassed. "Apologies for eating in front of you. I'm sure you're a bit... hungry yourself." She clears her throat, trying to act nonchalant about such a topic in public. She still has the decorum of her profession, after all.
Atriox grunts
“Nothing to apologize for my dear. Nothing at all. You must eat and you can not help it that my diet is......so particular. Though I hear your an excellently aged vintage.”
He winks at her in return. Though it probably sounds odd to most or just vulgar He’s sure she understands.
Dahila snickers and covers her mouth to hide her laughter. Shaking her head she grins at you. "You would say something like that. Been playful since they day I met you."
She sips at her water again, comforted that you're not troubled or bothered by it. She hides her coy smile with her cup. "Too bad we only have three hours here... But I am available if you need."
Atriox looks at her concerned
“Are you sure ? I hate this....what I do to you. That is the biggest regret I have about the whole thing.”
"Oh Atriox.... You didn't mean to be... Afflicted with this." Dahlia chooses her words carefully, being in public.
"And you haven't done anything terrible to me. I was the one who asked the last time." She blushes and takes another drink of water, her eyes averted.
"Regardless," she pauses, her tail brushing against yours, "That's one of the things keeping me occupied these long months aboard the Annabel. Looking through Oxious' dusty old notes for ways to... Help. To heal."
Atriox grunts still not happy but he supposes it is how it is. He try’s to give her a smile
“How about we umm.....get a room for an hour and.....practice some of those healing skills”
Dahlia snickers and shakes her head. "Here? You sure they have rooms big enough for us?"
She plays coy, enjoying teasing Atriox like she used to do. Finishing off her water with a sigh and gives the dragonborn prince a knowing look. "I'm game... As long as you have some food too. Can't have you retaking a kingdom on an empty stomach."
Taking your response agreeably, Dahlia stands and goes to speak with the little gnome. When she comes back she flashes you a smile along with a key.
"You have your hour, prince. Come. Let's get you healed up."
The time spent together is somehow reminiscent of when you first met, free of the stress and concerns that have piled up in the months since. With her permission--or rather, insistence--you've been able to feed quite fully on her, even more so than the previous time.
Just as unique and exquisite a taste as before, by the time you're finished she sinks into an exhausted sleep. You're sure you heard her mumble something as she drifted off--you couldn't quite tell what--but her hand clutches yours gratefully. Her body works to recuperate her own stock of blood, but it could definitely take some time.
Atriox flexes as he feels his strength and energy flow back into him. He looks down at Dahlia, feeling a pang of regret he lets her sleep for a bit before they have to move out again. He goes back downstairs to see if there any gnomes waiting.
You look around, refreshed and revitalized, and easily sense a few eyes upon you. One fellow catches your attention immediately--sitting at a nearby table is a gnome with a strange blue felt hat, baggy clothes and goggles around his neck. He has a hotcake half way to his mouth but drops it as he sees you.
"Ho! There yea is! The miss told me you were around still, just had to wait a mite! Said I couldn't miss ya!" He hops out of his seat and rushes up, wiping his hands on his shirt and reaching to shake your hand. "Panapip's the name! Hope your travelin' is going well! Roads being what they is nowadays and all."
You see a crest on his shirt, an emblem of some kind of crafting guild in the city no doubt. It looks like a gear wrapped in fire, but it's hard to focus with his giant grin. "Heard you was needing artisans for some refurbishment. That right? I'm one of the lead contractors of the Powered Ingots, always ready to take on new work and help where I can!"
Atriox chuckles at his enthusiasm and happily but carefully shakes the little mans hand back.
“Hello there Master Panapip. It is a pleasure to meet you. The roads so far have been decent though to be honest we probably don’t look like one’s to be easily robbed. “
Atriox motions over to a table for the little man to sit and join him
“Please eat your food if you want I mind not. A man needs to eat. Now then you heard mostly right there. When I was a young boy I remember how much i admired your kind for your ingenuity and creative spark. I wish that to come to Skyhold. No doubt there’s much in the reconstruction your kind could help with but ill even spice the deal up. I want Skyhold to be a......place for all peoples out there. In the mountain itself I plan on setting up districts. I’m inviting gnome families and workers who seek new opportunities to come and build the gnome district up and live in Skyhold. If any are interested that is.”
He happily takes a seat and begins shoveling hotcakes back into his mouth, despite the rather important meeting. He has no intention of being rude, but is undoubtedly eccentric.
As you complete your explanation his eyes blaze with interest. "Oh definitely!! YES! A thousand times over! Blessed be the sun and stars this day. I won't disappoint! Or I'll... I'll eat my badge!" Panapip gets a very serious, silly look on his face. "I'll let others know too. We have lots of work cut out for us here for the bigger cities, but..."
It's hard to see him contain his excitement. "When do you need us?"
Atriox grunts in amusement, blowing some steam out his nostrils he replies
“Soon. But first Skyhold but never retaken. After that your free to come whenever you want my good sir.”
"Absolutely! We shall make you proud, Lord." He bows low, his hat falling off into his hotcakes. "I shall be one of the first there, on my honor!"
He grabs his now sticky hat, along with the final hotcake, bows quickly again before placing his money on the table and hurrying out. The den of noise continues to fill the pub, with new laughter and talk as rumors begin to spread.
A hand touches your shoulder and you see a slightly pale Dahlia smiling down at you. "At work again I see? I had a feeling." She chuckles at Panapip's departure.
Atriox shrugs still a little upset at having to use her. He places his hand on hers and gently strokes it with his thumb
“How are you feeling ? I was a bit worried”
She leans down and rests her head against yours. "I'm fine, just a bit tired. Nothing to worry about... I'm a healer after all, it's my specialty." She chuckles a little, hoping to sound reassuring.
Giving your shoulder a squeeze she nuzzles your ear with her nose, minding your horns. "Please don't feel guilty."
Atriox grunts in his usual manner
“Very well but we best be off then. You’ll ride with me. I really don’t want you falling to your death especially since it would be my fault.”
He stands up and takes her hand again and holds it, leading her gently out of the inn and back to the horses. He’s curious to see if the gnulls made anything and how everyone else is
(I'm almost done posting but, just to make this interesting... roll a d100 for me... lets see if the gnolls caused any trouble)
(79)
She's able to manage the walk decently well, but she does not complain at the idea of having to ride with you. Despite her efforts she is still rather weak and tired looking, and appreciative of your gentleness.
The rest of the team looks ready to move out. Oxious and Bareus are having a discussion off to the side, the grouchy tiefling holding a wrapped package of goods he must have purchased in town. He only has his bare essentials with him, the majority of his ingredients and research to be brought to Skyhold later.
You spot Vance and Ismene finishing a walk through town, her undoubted curiosity dragging the smitten dragonborn along as she plays harmless pranks on the intriguing little gnomes.
Tak works among the luggage, securing it and making sure it is all tied down properly. The cart for the gnolls is indeed gone, and you can easily follow the noise of bells, cymbals and laughter to the town square. Kiz is the first back, a huge toothy smile on her face.
"Atriox! You were not teasing us! This place of yours is full of town after town of happy, strange people. We are excited to see more and more!" With a chuckle of laughter the little gnoll holds up a bag filled with gold dust, strange coins and other trinkets. "Just trying to keep Gyzz and Gazz out of trouble."
At that moment there is a small explosion and a huge poof of purple smoke rising into the sky. Kiz's ears go flat as she watches, then sheepishly looks back at Atriox.
Atriox laughs and ruffles her hair a bit
“I’m glad you and your family are happy. Now I think we should take that as our cue to go don’t you ?”
His nods in the direction of the purple explosion. His tail thumps back and forth from time to time
With an enthusiastic nod she bounds off to wrangle her brothers and the rest of her family, and soon everyone is back together again. The grandfather, Zan, sits in a cart while the toddler, Tut, pulls at his graying, messy fur. You get the feeling Zan is watching you, despite his partial blindness. There's a serene look on his face, but he doesn't say anything as you look his way.
Atriox chooses to ignore the old man and mounts up after helping Dahlia up. He gets everybody moving and then rides after them continuing to the mountain range that is home
The journey continues smoothly enough as you pass to the left of the mountains growing up before you. They loom like sentinels, watching over the lands, but somehow... forsaken and filled with a grief that you intimately understand.
The roads grow more disused and quiet with each passing hour. It does not seem as if people travel this way much anymore. You have a foreboding sense about it all, but press onward nonetheless. Dahlia sits in front of you, safely cradled against your chest as she sleeps.
(Make a perception check for me)

(Niiiiiiiice XD)
Your eyes glow red a little as your enhanced senses pick up movement, and the smell of... is it blood on the wind? Rodents? You can't quite tell. You scan the cliffs up above. The birds are quiet again, and only loose pebbles seem to tumble free from up above. Someone or something has been watching you.
These main roads definitely make it harder to be inconspicuous, although they are much easier and quicker to ride on.
Eyes seem to peer out at you from the small, dark crevasses in the mountain. Evil and full of loathing.
Atriox pulls on the reigns of his war horse to bring to a halt. It stamps its feet in impatience but he manages to keep it still. He looks at the mountains with unease and extreme caution as he sniffs the air. He knows not what is watching them but he knows deep down without a doubt that something is
He lets out a small growl and turns his horse back at the rest of the group. In hushed tones he tells Et, Vance, Tak and the Gnull family to be on they’re guard and that they are being watched.
“I don’t want to be snuck up on if whatever it is decides to take action. We must ride fast though. We are nearly there.”
Atriox draws his own sword with one hand and the other on the reigns he spurs his horse forward quickly to where he thinks the army is no doubt waiting in the distance
The time passes quickly as you spur the horses on, their hooves thundering the ground. Nothing attempts to assail you due to your speed, ferocity and readiness, especially now that everyone in your group is on high alert.
Every step further that you take brings you closer to home. To where it all began. To where it all ended.... A weight like an ocean fills in around you, bearing down on you and your spirit. Memories, sorrow, regret, despair, you can't quite name the feeling. This is where you lost everything you ever knew, and were forced into exile by your terrible circumstances. When you became the hunted one.
No longer.
Riding hard into the night and into the dark hours of the next day, you finally smell what you know to be the fires of troops preparing for war. But not just that--the smell from the mountain has become more pungent, more sour. Something terrible is brewing... Something massive.
Vance rides in front with you, brimming with excitement for battle. His mood feels like a stark contrast to your own somehow, but he motions with his hand as he points ahead to where he's sure he senses his own people.
"It's been long enough! Time to reunite with Kybirus and make this land ours again!"
